Rev. Thomas B. Mellott began his service as Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green on July 1, 2008.  Tom has served in rural, town and country and suburban pastorates. He has been a solo pastor and an associate pastor specializing in Christian Education, evangelism and missions. For the past several years he has served as a senior/lead pastor in multi-staff settings.

 

Tom holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Cincinnati State College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Xavier University.  He graduated with Master’s Degrees in Divinity and Religious Education from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. While in seminary he was recognized as a United Methodist Seminary Scholar and was recipient of the Charles L. Rummel Award for Christian Education. He has taken additional training at Loyola University of Maryland, the Toronto School of Theology, the Alban Institute and Asbury Theological Seminary (Beeson Institute of Advanced Leadership).

 

Tom has been active in ministries beyond the local church. He is currently a member of the West Ohio Conference Board of Trustees. He has served as a member of the boards of the Miami Valley Mission Society and the West Ohio United Methodist Credit Union. He has served on district mission, pastoral care and superintendency committees. He has served the West Ohio Conference as a Volunteers in Mission team leader and a facilitator in the supervised years program. He has led over twenty homeland and overseas mission teams. Tom has served as a Spiritual Director for an Emmaus Community.

 

Tom is married to Deborah Lynn (Carpenter). Debbie is a Social Worker. They have three grown children, a wonderful son-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren. Tom likes to hike and read. Debbie likes to do counted cross-stitch. Tom and Debbie both love to travel and spend time with their family.
